The melodious Indian singer, Shaan turns 48 on September 30. The singer with his charming smile and sensational voice has ruled the Bollywood Music Industry for so long.

The infectious energy, expression, and natural charm he brought to every song he took on, gave him a special place alongside his contemporaries Sonu Nigam and KK.

On the occasion of Shaan’s birthday, here are some lesser-known facts about the sensational singer with the most charming smile:

  • Shaan was born as Shantanu Mukherjee in a Bengali family in Madhya Pradesh.
  • His grandfather was the lyricist Jahar Mukherjee, his father was the late music director Manas Mukherjee, and his sister is the singer Sagarika. His father died when Shaan was 13, after which his mother found work as a singer.
  • As a child, Shaan began his career singing jingles for advertisements. After giving it up for a brief period he returned and, along with jingles, began to sing remixes and cover versions. In the 1989 movie Parinda, aged only 17, Shaan sang a single line in the song, “Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari”.
  • The singer has sung songs in Konkani, Kannada, Bengali, Punjabi, Nepali, English, Hindi, Oriya, Malayalam, Telugu, Marathi, and Assamese.
  • Shan came up with his first solo album ‘Naujawaan’ in 1996 for which he received rave reviews from the audience. Since then there has been no looking back for him, and he has built a successful niche for itself in the industry.
